Sandow
had a compact, but very powerful back. His muscles were extremely
dense in this area, and he could lift a surpising amount of
weight for his size. In his Vaudeville act, he would lift
a pony off the stage with one arm and raise it until all 4
hoves were off the floor. This took amazingly powerful back
strength.
