"STAFF
SERGEANT" (Alfred) MOSS
An
English strongman, Moss was a dashing and "decorated"
muscle champion. He sported many many brightly colored tattoos
he aquired in India at the turn of the century. Sadly, he
actually lost a physique contest once only because of his
"gaudy" skin decorations. The photos are from about
1902. Moss later fought bravely in World War One as a Staff
Sergaent, hence the name. He taught gymnastics for a while
in Aldershot.
Moss
had a symetrical and obviously powerful physique, even by
todays standards. His well-developed muscles and tattoos could
have been quite intimidating in those days, but Moss had a
ready smile if he liked you. Judging from these photos, I
imagine one would want to have remained on his "good
side".
