A
rare French poster
owned by Sandow biographer David Chapman showing a rather
Art Nouveau version of Sandow demonstrating his portable
exerciser to a thin and awe-struck gentleman. Interesting
that the headline of the poster is written in English. It
is also of note Sandow appears so lifelike and real, and
the observing man is portrayed as a 2 dimensional cartoon,
without shadow or shape. The artist even gives the thin
man heavy clothes, and Sandow none, thus implying even a
man without a stitch of clothes, will look more impressive
than even a fully well dressed thin one. The poster gives
the viewer a choice of which man he wants to become. The
choice is also painfully clear. The developer sold very
well.
