EUGEN
SANDOW
In
this handsome photograph, Sandow appears to be in his 30s.
Sandow was an excellent businessman. He had a mail order
business he ran from Boston by the time this photograph
was made. Note how well Sandow's obliques
(muscles at the sides of the waistline) are developed. Earle
Liederman wrote that a man with a thin waist without this
oblique development looked "weak"... the Victorian
muscle champions developed these muscles, and even had poses
that displayed these to advantage. This is a sharp contrast
to the taste of most bodybuilders of today who prefer a
leaner, slimmer waistline area.
