ALOIS
SWOBODA
At
the right is a 1901 advertisment for "The Swoboda System
of Physiological Exercise". Alois Swoboda of Chicago
claimed to have the only system of exercise that conformed
to the laws of Physiology! Not only did it promote perfect
health but promised it "absolutely cured constipation,
indegestion, sleeplessness, nervous exhaustion and revitalized
the whole body!" I know that weight training may help
pave the way toward good health, but I am not sure it
can cure all that Alois claimed. Still, it must have
worked for him, as Mr. Swoboda, seen in the photograph,
is the perfect picture of health and muscularity.
